PDO MONO THREADS
Mono threads are made from Polydioxanone (PDO) a strong bio-resorbable suture filament which is also known as a synthetic polymer that is able to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and restructure our dermis for ultimate anti-aging effects. PDO threads are able to retain 50% tensile strength within the skin, giving the skin a nice and tight feeling and takes roughly 180 days to breakdown within the skins structure and has a very low tissue reactivity - meaning it causes NO irritation within the skin.
This dissolvable suture material has been used in surgeries worldwide for decades.
Whilst there are a variety of threads available Shine Aesthetics & Beauty prefer to use a mixture of both smooth and barbed threads to give the best overall result.
MONO threads are designed to tighten, thicken and improves the skins texture and appearance of fine lines + wrinkles.
LONG threads are barded and work to lift, tighten and rejuvenate the treated area through the extended stimulation of neocollagenesis (formation of baby collagen fibers) within the dermis. This happens due to the extra barbs and surface area of the thread applying more trauma within the skin, resulting in a more prominent lift + restructure.
Smooth Mono threads are used especially in the face and neck area to promote skin tightening and remodelling of the skin dermis. The threads are placed in areas of heaviness resulting in the body releasing growth factors to breakdown the thread over a 4-6 week period. For most this gives an instant lifting and tightening effect to the skin. Once the thread has dissolved the underlying factors such as collagen, fibrinogen and hyaluronic acid are left in place offering support the skin. This is a minimally invasive treatment with little to no downtime.
Treatment time is approximately 30-45 minutes. An average treatment will be 30-50 threads depending on the size of the treatment area. It is common to have swelling, redness and bruising in the area. This can take 7-14 days to subside depending on bruising.
The final results are often seen at 6-8 weeks and can have an effect for up to 6 Months.

Here's the answers to some of your questions...
When can you see the results from mono/long threads?
There is immediate swelling, slight lifting, tightness and some bruising may also occur post treatment. Neocollagenesis formation takes approximately 12 weeks so, effects are seen best at this time.
How long do results last?
Generally the results will hold and last for 6-12 months, this will differ from patient to patient. The longevity depends on how well the clients takes care, protects and nourishes their skin.
Lifestyles choices will also effect the effectiveness and longevity of the PDO threads for example if the client lost weight quickly, smoked, was a heavy drinker, struggled with sleep - these contribute to the breakdown of your extracellular matrix (which is composed of your collagen, elastin and glycosaminoglycans that make your skin feel fresh + plump).
How deep are the threads placed?
MONO threads are placed in the sub-dermal plane, this is the OPTIMAL position for neocollagenesis to be initiated within the skin.
How long does the PDO material stay in my skin for?
The PDO threads are metabolised by the body through a process called hydrolysis and this occurs 3-6 months after the procedure. The threads, once broken down, are excreted as CO2 and water within the skin + naturally the lymphatic system will work the waste out of the body. If you were to biopsy the dermis of the skin at this exact point in healing, you would find a unique and fresh Type 3 collagen mesh network in the treated area.
Can the results be reversed?
Small amount of steroid can be introduced into the area of treatment IF necessary.
When can i start using Hyaluronic Acid again?
Utilise your HA as soon as you can! HA will help the skin to stay hydrated, repair quickly + effectively AND supply the threads with more assistance in neocollagensis - as a hydrated, healthy skin repairs faster than a dehydrated one.
Why after threads can I not have heat based treatments like laser?
The threads that you have just had placed within the skin are heat sensitive, meaning that they degrade MUCH more quickly when exposed to higher temperatures. This is due to the fact that heat rises the activity of the cells, meaning that they work to get the foreign body out much faster than what is anticipated. It is advised to AVOID heat based treatments for a MINIMUM of 12 weeks.
